Hi, I'm a Programmer

Hi, I'm a Programmer.

Or a Developer. Or a Software Developer. Hey just call me a Nerd. I don't really care.

I write code.

I make computers do things that are useful. Well thats the ideal situation.

Some of my creations have been very useful. Ever bought a ticket to a movie? Well your welcome.
How about joined The Warehouse Christmas club?
Ever bought a Warehouse Gift Card?
Gone in a lift in Shortland Street? Had a BellSouth or Vodafone mobile phone?
Ever been to an ASB Bank Branch?

Anyway, don't want or need the glory, just good when things come together and people have better lives because I wrote some great code.

One of my ancestors won an English prize while at high school. So maybe some of that has filtered down. Probably not much if I'm honest.  And speaking of honesty, some people have called me Honest Grant on occasion. I think it was my Great, Great Grandfather. The prize was a very thick English Tome. I read a couple of sentences once from it. Phew, I'm sure my Ancestor could understand it.

If I was to think about were I discovered my affinity for high tech things, it would be a magazine my Grandmother bought me for my 14th birthday. It was back in 1979, and the magazine was full of amazing futuristic gadgets and ideas. Thank you Grandma.

One of the pages had a person calling a friend anywhere in the world from a small wrist device. Well that is basically the Apple Watch/iPhone/Android Phone/Mobile Phone.

Welcome to the future.

It peaked my interest, and soon after I found a book, The Mighty Micro by Christopher Evans. It was amazing.

And the rest was, as they say, history.
