Replacing the Lamp in My Panasonic PT-AE4000 Projector

The dreaded REPLACE LAMP message appeared on the projector screen a few days ago.

Here is the process I followed to get a new lamp and install it.

What projector do I have?

Panasonic PT-AE4000

It's a 1080p HD LCD projector. Bought it back in 2011. Been going great ever since. This will be my 3rd lamp replacement.

Order a new lamp

A new lamp was ordered online, from Projector Bulbs. It cost $233.44 (NZ$) including shipping.
This is the link to it.

It arrived at my door only a few days later.

Now for the tricky part - installation

Remove from ceiling mount.
Gently pry up the top cover, from the rear side. Nothing to unscrew yet.

Pull out the restraining tab.

Unclip the two restraining clips near the front. Squeeze in on each side to release.

Now we need to unscrew the 3 screws indicated. Not all the way, just so they are out of the case.
As we will be pulling the old lamp out next.

Once the screws are loose, pull the Unlock Lamp, and pull the old lamp out straight up.

Now its empty, ready for the new lamp.

Push in the new lamp gently. It should line up easily. Then screw in the 3 screws so they are tight - but not super tight - don't want to strip the screws.

New its time to put the top cover back on. Re-clip the restraining clips.

Mount the projector on ceiling and connect cables.

Power on...

Reset the Lamp Runtime

Go into the menu
OPTION
LAMP RUNTIME
Press and Hold OK button on remote

It will change to this screen, to confirm the Reset. Press the left arrow to select OK, and press Enter on the remote.
The projector will power itself off.

Wait a couple of minutes, and power the projector on.
Go back into the menu and check the LAMP RUNTIME.
It should now show 0 Hours.

Congratulations, you now have a new lamp and can enjoy another 2 or 3 years of giant screen entertainment.
